Archaeology Today
New Vermont Archaeology Publication available on the Internet or a Free Hard Copy
Vermont has a new archeology book, “Powerful History: The Archaeology of Native People in the Champlain Lowlands,” now available on-line or as a no-cost hard copy. Published and funded by the VT Electric Power Co. (VELCO) and written by the University of Vermont’s Consulting Archaeology Program, this publication is a delightful piece for anyone interested in the marvelous mix of history, archeology, Native Americans, climate change, and the environment. It’s available both on-line and in hard copy for free from the VT Electric Power Co (VELCO).
This publication results from the extensive archeological studies funded by VELCO during planning for its Northwest Reliability Project transmission corridor in Chittenden, Addison, and Rutland Counties. VELCO’s archeological consultants studied 113 pre-Contact sites. Vermont’s Archeology Guidelines require significant public benefits if sites are adversely affected. VELCO has shown outstanding commitment to this goal and created a legacy piece for all Vermonters to learn more about the state’s extraordinary and rich history.
