Site VT-CH-1002 is located at the drainage divide of the Sunderland and Indian Brooks in Colchester, Vermont. It was identified from the recovery of lithic flakes and tools made from local Hathaway chert, during a contract archaeology project in 2006. The VAS will continue work at site VT-CH-1002 in the hopes of recovering temporally diagnostic artifacts that could date its occupation, and to better understand the occupation history of the area. Several adjacent sites have dated to the Early Woodland period (ca. 1000 B.C. - A.D. 100).

The project will begin on Saturday, June 28 at the site and continue every weekend until we’re done. Beginning in mid-July we will start processing the artifacts at the lab of the Vermont Heritage Center in South Burlington.

This archaeological work will be entirely based on the volunteer effort of our members. So if you are itching to get your hands dirty in the field or want to work more closely with artifacts in the lab, please contact the VAS at through our contact page or download the volunteer form and send it to us at:
